Couranto at the SLA conference: Three presentations to watch for

The Special Libraries Association (SLA) conference is a much-anticipated annual event that brings together specialist librarians, information professionals, and the companies that serve this group of people. Couranto has had a close partnership with the SLA for many years and will present three key presentations at the 2022 SLA conference.

In the spirit of the source forward theme of the conference, we’ll take a fresh look at the importance of a regular needs assessment in ensuring that the right sources are in place – while reviewing twoof our key products: Couranto Clarity, and Couranto Discovery. Here’s what you can look forward to.

Regular needs assessments: the why and the how

We’re going to start off our presentation series at the 2022 SLA conference with a review of something that’s incredibly important in our field but often neglected. That is, of course, the need to
regularly review requirements with respect to information sources, and how well these requirements are being met.

Nick Collinson, Director of Business Strategy, Market Development, Library & E-Content will present, and in this presentation he will build a case for a regular needs assessment, explaining why
organizations need to take a deeper look into the fit of their information resources. That includes reviewing what’s new on the market – and building evidence to support budget negotiations.

We’ll also provide some practical advice on how to go about conducting a needs assessment, including how to set your goals, as well as six key questions you need to ask to make the most out of
the exercise.

Talking about discovery

A needs assessment’s primary purpose is to discover needs, but sometimes the problem runs in reverse: information users don’t know what’s available to them, which means information sources go underused – and information needs are underserved.

Couranto Discovery is designed to fix this problem by making it easy to make content much more visible, and discoverable. In our presentation, we’ll illustrate how librarians can use Discovery to help their colleagues find information much faster. You’ll learn how Discovery offers the ability to provide specific tips for users to make the most of a
source, and how easy it is to customize Discovery – with no need to continuously refer back to your in-house IT team when you need help.

Reviewing information usage via Couranto Clarity

Finally, Couranto will also present a session on Clarity, the information management platform that helps you to manage the different information sources your company depends on. Clarity provides
you with an at-a-glance overview of sources available to you and provides in-depth monitoring too, so that you can track information access and usage in real time. We’ll outline how, by highlighting unused and underutilized sources, Clarity’s toolset can help you get much more out of your information budgets. You can also use Clarity to directly survey your colleagues, so users can provide direct input into their needs and requirements.

Three presentations, one goal

For decades Couranto has worked tirelessly to make information more accessible, more effective and more affordable. Join us at the SLA’s 2022 conference from July 31st to August 2nd for three impactful presentations that will help you get much more out of your information sources.
